Biography

Raziel Gutiérrez Soto was born in Mexico and is based in Australia since 2010.

He started playing his first chords on the guitar at the age of 9 and grew up playing and singing popular songs at school events and family gatherings.

With no music as a subject in his schooling years, Raziel grew thirsty of music and by the age of 16, he was certain that all he wanted to do was music, so at the age of 18, after two years experiencing high levels of anxiety and depression, he left his home town and family to study a Bachelor Degree in Classical Music at the University of Veracruz, Mexico.

After two years of studies he composed his fantasy "Comet" (Fantasía Cometa) for guitar solo (the first one of his compositions) which is a retrospection of his life up to that moment. Through that piece Raziel experienced the first stage of his healing process through music making.

Some months later he had another experience in which, after waking up from a significant dream, he could feel his anxious feelings getting transformed into another one of his guitar solo pieces: "The Oneiric Suite" (La Suite Onírica).

During his time at university Raziel composed a variety of works for dance, theatre and multidisciplinary projects as well as several songs.

In 2005 he became a professional member of the Xalapa Guitar Orchestra under the direction of Alfonso Moreno Luce. With this orchestra, Raziel traveled to St Petersburg, Russia in 2006 to perform at the 'Palaces festival' held during the White Nights of summer.

At the end of 2009 Raziel migrated to Australia to live, where he has expanded his field of influence in society by becoming a primary teacher. He has continued his work as a musician alongside his teaching career, composing songs and instrumental music, performing regularly as a classical guitarist as well as a singer and songwriter, teaching music as well as his mother tongue Spanish privately as well as in primary schools...

For Raziel, music making and playing is more than a profession, a career or a trade; it is a spiritual path to self knowledge and service.
